An album of family portraits.

Unidentified photographer circa 1919

There are boxes of lost or abandoned or unclaimed photographs all around the world, in attics and garages and thrift stores.  I find them desperately lonely and sad, like children separated from parents, lonely and frightened.  They're like ghosts clinging to some unsettled business here on the firmament.  They always leave me in profound sadness.

Although that's sort of how I started this day anyway.
